Great knife; expensive, but worth it : Wusthof Classic 8-Piece Knife Set with Block

My first set of quality knives. Well balanced, nice looking, but weak edge retention. Despite using bamboo as a cutting covering I have to resharpen them every week to keep a razor sharp edge. I was pretty satisfied with them until I tried a small Global utility knife, which was much sharper out of the box and maintained its edge way longer. Initially, I tried to convince myself that my Wusthofs still had some advantage in balance and weight, but as time passed I discovered that I was using them less frequently.
In comparison Wusthofs are made of a significantly softer steel and the quality of the edge does not even collate to the Globals. Believe me, there is a World beyond German knives that needs to be discovered. If my Globals worth 5 stars then these knives deserve only 3.
